NEW YORK—Ira R. Greenhouse, 70, a longtime Safilo executive, passed away on Nov. 12. Greenhouse spent the last 22 years of his career at Safilo where most recently he was in charge of Special Sales at Safilo USA. Prior to Safilo, Greenhouse worked at Renaissance Eyewear, Colors in Optics and Riviera Trading among other companies. Greenhouse was a long-standing board member of the Accessories Council. Accessories Council president Karen Giberson, commented on his career in fashion accessories, especially in eyewear. “One of our longest serving board members, we will remember Ira as a staunch supporter of the Council, our past chairman and a man highly dedicated to our industry,” she said. “Ira helped the Council with introductions and connections in the optical business, and as chairman of the Council, he put in countless hours on strategy and advice in our formative years. He was a cornerstone in helping to build the organization that we are today. For those who didn’t know Ira well, he had a terrific sense of humor, was a wonderful friend and trusted colleague. We have really lost one of the great ones today. He will be dearly missed.” Greenhouse is survived by his wife Paula and daughter Jamie. A service will be held in his honor on Friday, Nov. 17, 12:30 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York, N.Y. 10023. A separate memorial for Greenhouse is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Candlelighters NYC an organization dedicated to helping children and families fight cancer while they are in New York City.
