What: Tom Ford Soleil lip blush with 24K gold flakes.
Who: Tom Ford wasn’t always a mega-star designer and incumbent chairman of the CFDA. Once upon a time he was an art history student at New York University. Then he studied architecture at Parsons before he wound up in the world of fashion — joining Gucci as a womenswear designer in 1990. He was promoted several times, eventually becoming the brand’s creative director. He added creative director of Yves Saint Laurent to his duties in 2000. In 2005, two years after resigning from Gucci Group, he launched his eponymous label. Today his line includes both men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections, a beauty and skincare line, fragrances, and eyewear.
His latest beauty collection — Soleil Summer 2019 — is a sparking range of products, some of which feature 24K gold flecks.
The lip blush in the Daily Front Row office
Why: It. Has. Gold. In. It. But beyond that it’s actually a great lip product. The lip blush applies smoothly and feels soft, like a balm. Seconds later your lips turn light pink, but in a way that looks natural, and not like you’ve applied a tint or a gloss. As a lip balm addict I can attest that this feels every bit as wonderful as other balms, but is significantly more chic than anything else out there.
Anyone on board with this collection at the mention of “gold” will be happy to know that the sparkly flakes can be found in other items as well, including a nail lacquer.
